ELI 101 Online Course Description for Students   

Prerequisites: NONE

Student Hours: A good time for appointments using Zoom is between the hours of 9:00 and 3:00 CST.

Folse, Keith, and Tison Pugh. Great Writing: From Great Essays to Research. MA. Cengage Learning, 2019.

All instructional materials, practice quizzes, Canvas assessments, and activities are from the textbook. 

Course Grading

Late Assignment Policy 

Late writing assignments lose 3 points each day. After 4 days, you receive a 0% on the assignment, unless you have a written doctor's excuse. You MUST contact the teacher if you are having difficulties with assignments. 

Penalties for Plagiarism: For each offense, you will receive and must sign a Violation of the UAB Honor Code letter from the ELP Director.

· 1st offense in the ELP program = Re-do the assignment and lose 15% off the total possible points of the assignment. If the assignment is not re-done, 0% for the assignment.

· 2nd offense in the ELP program = 0% on the assignment and cannot re-do it.

· 3rd offense in the ELP program = Receive a failing grade in the course. The cheating/plagiarism reason for failing will be written on your permanent UAB record.

Grading Scale

A = 100-90     B = 80-89   Pass the Course 

C = 70-79     D = 60-69     F = < 60 Repeat the Course

Student Access to Grades

Reminder: While Canvas does grade some questions, I have to go in and grade many of the questions.                                       Any score you see may NOT be your final grade.  I will publish final scores after grading.
